Building a Foundation

Until the next grading in June, Monday night classes will be 'Back to Basics'. The basic
moves in any logical learning process are the stepping stones to greater things, they
are the foundation of all things to come. A magnificent building will surely fall if it has
a week foundation. So to in the fighting arts will a magnificent looking person fall without
building a strong foundation.
In any adrenal filled situation when fear is present & the body is tense, nearly always
the person well trained in the basics will come out on top. Simple, direct moves work,
there's less room for error. Imagine being approached by a large aggressor on the street,
do you go straight to a flying triangle choke or just simply knock him out with a good
right cross. Of course the triangle would look fantastic & there's a good possibility a well
trained person could pull it of on your average Joe, but just consider the consequences
with such a large window of error.
Of coarse if all we ever did was basics there would be no evolution & training would be
boring. Our thirst for knowledge always finds us trying to by-pass the basics & move on
to the flasher more advanced moves. So every now & then, even advanced students,
need to go 'Back to Basics' & add strength to the foundation.

Happy Building
