Great Results For Team Castle Hill

Was a huge weekend of tournaments with Team UCA Castle Hill entering 10 people
over 3 different tournaments. Saturday saw us send our first team of 8 people covering
nearly ever division to the Machado BJJ state championships.
The kids tournament commenced first with Jake Farnsworth & new recruit Marcus Scalone
showing complete domination over their opponents to take out 1st place in their divisions.
Luca Buratto finished his first bout with a textbook rear naked choke & went on to take
out 2nd place in the 67 to 72kg class.
Warren Parsons submitted his first opponent with a front choke in what must have been
the fastest finish of the day & went on to take 3rd place in the very competitive 73 to 79kg
class.
Ven Gialouris also fought in one of the most competive classes, 79 to 85kg. After 2 tough
matches Ven fought off for third place. Withstanding every submission attempt. Ven
unfortunately went down on points.
Paul Smibert took 2nd place in the 91 to 97kg class, narrowly missing out on the win by
points decision.
The action in the super heavy weight class, (97kg & above) was fierce to say the least.
Luke Price took on the heaviest guy in the competition, battling hard from his guard
& at rounds end just going down by 2 points.
Scott Martell also had an exciting bout, turning the match around & trying to finish with an
armbar from side control in the dying seconds, narrowly missing out on points.
Jake Farnsworth & Marcus Scalone backed up to compete on Sunday at the ISKA comp.
Clearly worn from the previous day the boy's fought hard & managed 3rd & 4th places
respectively, (amidst contraversy). Robert Sabaruddin took out 1st place in the 66 to 73kg
class with 2 submissions. Also big mention to Melanie Scalone competing against the men on
both day's & taking 2nd place at ISKA.
Kris Nubla fought at the federation comp. on Sunday in the blue belt division, succumbing to
a choke in the final seconds of his match.
All in all it was a great effort by all competitors & fantastic result for the club. I was very proud
of the way everyone excepted not only victory but also defeat, this is the measure of true martial
artist. Pictures will be added to the gallery soon. Anyway must go, family is calling.

Keep Training

Simon
