Hard Training Pays Off

What a huge weekend of martial arts. It all started Saturday morning, arriving at 8:30am for the kids divisions of the ISKA world cup. Jake Farnsworth totally dominated his division, not having a single point scored against him on his way to being crowned the ISKA 8 year old, under 25kg world cup champion. It's amazing how calm & relaxed Jake is until he gets on the mat, stares his opponent down & then as if flicking a light switch it's game on.
Ara Aroutriounian also competed in both BJJ & Greco Roman wrestling, fighting at a 15kg + disadvantage in the BJJ. Ara had a great match, finishing strong on mount position & taking second place.

Also a special mention to Andris & Adam Aglesz from Langes Martial Arts whom I also coached on the day, both winning their divisions.                                                                                                                                                 As It approached 4:00pm it was time to race home for a quick change & off to Five Dock for the fight night. The action was kicked off with the MMA fights, first up was Luke Price V John Hatch. With both fighters being trained by myself it was a flick of the coin as to who I would corner. Thanks to Luke Farnsworth for coming along & cornering for Luke Price. The two heavyweights put on a great energetic display of MMA action with the fight going from standing to the ground many times as the crowd watched in awe. At fights end it was Luke Price who took the judges decision. Next up was Robert Sabaruddin fighting a Muay Thai guy with modified rules. Rob fought like a seasoned professional taking the guy down time & time again with body slams that shook the building & revved up the crowd. In the 2nd round, with submissions now allowed, Rob wasted no time taking it to the ground & finishing with an armbar. Well done guy's, this is the sort of push the action figting that is great for our sport. Also well done to the thai guy, Ben? for entering & not being afraid to do his thing.
Sunday morning & back to the ISKA world cup for the adults comp. Robert Sabbaruddin backed up competing in BJJ & Freestyle Wrestling, narrowly missing the finals in BJJ. Veniamin Gialouris submitted all his opponents to take 1st place. Martyn Harris took 2nd place, also getting a submission in the semi finals. Andrew Fu, also getting a submission in his first match was just out pointed in his semi final match, but went on to take 3rd place.                Give yourselves a pat on the back, with great dedication comes great results. Many thanks to my wife & daughter for the video's, footage will be available soon.
